Journey into the heart of Lima

Yesterday marked our last full day in Lima before heading inland to Cuzco. We slept in a bit and then headed to another highly recommended place for lunch - Pardo's Chicken. I had a nice slab of rotisserie chicken with the seemingly ubiquitous canned veggie salad and a super sweet chicha morada. After a quick stop by the hotel to get a hoodie, we caught a cab for the City Center and the Museo de Arte de Lima. It's an absolutely gorgeous building with an open foyer and ambient car horns aplenty. Unfortunately, the whole upper level was closed for renovations, so we only got to see a few special exhibits. Once we had seen all that was available, we headed out on foot thru the crowded streets toward the historic heart of Lima, Plaza de Armas. Some creative navigating by yours truly took us past the lovely Plaza San Martin and its 1921 statue to commemorate Peru's independence. An additional short walk took us to the Plaza de Armas, which is where Pizarro founded Lima in 1535. The striking French style architecture surrounding the Plaza was quite breathtaking. Some additional wandering exposed us to even more cool architecture, including classic Art Deco and Victorian side-by-side.

A short cab ride back to the hotel and a bit of rest got us prepared for diner at Las Brujas de Cachiche. We had pisco sours, papa rellena, rich beef, and "sucking" pig. Right upstairs was a bar called Huaringas Bar, which supposedly has the best pisco sours in all of Peru. Well, we had several an made some cool local friends who spoke English well and were tons of in. After staying out too late for our early flight, we crashed out.
