Traveling to Cuzco and our first day in the city

I'm not gonna lie, today was a little rough. After our late night out in Lima, we had to get up super early to catch our flight to Cuzco. Our flight was at 8am and we had to obviously get to the airport which was over a half hour away, and also get there some reasonable amount of time before our flight. I think we only slept like 3 hours. Ooof! Well, it was ok and we made it there, but we were sooo tired and not feeling super hot. Add to that some super annoying loud people sitting next to us on the plane, and.. Well, all I could think of was getting to our hotel in Cuzco and sleeping!

We made it into Cuzco fine (by the way Star Peru was great, and it's like half the price of the other local airlines!) and took a cab to our hotel. Cuzco is at 11,000 ft and we already weren't feeling so hot - between a headache from too many pisco sours, no sleep, and the elevation, I was toast - so we basically just crashed at the hotel and slept for like 5 hours!

After waking up and puttering around for a little bit at our hotel we made it down to the main square here, the Plaza de Armas. We can walk there in about 15min from our hotel. Cuzco is a beautiful city - the lights are so nice here! We ate dinner at a restaurant in the main square, and then took care of our Peru Rail tickets to Machu Picchu on Tuesday. Unfortunately, most of the tickets were sold out so.. Well, we're going to have to figure out tomorrow how to get to where our train leaves Tuesday since we couldn't get the one direct from Cuzco. Also we had to pay more for the train ride back because they only had some fancier ticket left.. Sigh. Well, lesson learned, I suppose.

Tomorrow is going to be the day when go around and see the sights in Cuzco, and do some serious shopping! I'm definitely looking forward to checking out the city.

  1. Wow, only three hours sleep, sounds brutal. I guess that explains Jeanie's tired librarian look in yhe photos for Sunday :p On the bright side you seemed to have a fun night before paying the price the next day :D
